First I have to see if I can live with the Givi. I had zero luck finding an aftermarket shield that resembles the Sport model or at least splits the difference, but after riding the stocker I find I could get used to wind protection. Anyway, I'll see if the stocker can be restored, but sun-brittled plastic - it doesn't look like just surface marring - may be challenging to restore. I'll try some of that headlight restoration compound and maybe heat as a last resort.
Hi wheelman. Some compound an electric buffer may work?
I'm going to be looking into that Givi. I was thinking its a little to tall and wide?
but then again it is cold up this way. :nervous:

I couldn't find exact stock belt length for the Reflex or Big Ruckus. Can anyone help?

Greetings:

If you have a need for it, that'd be great! Just run a mm fabric tape around the outside and tell me the number?
[Edit 2/16/15: The Malossi belt measured out at 959mm with the tape on the outside.]

The Malossi belt is

Greetings:

I had a Saturday to play with scooters. Got busy with trim JetBlack stuff from O'Reilly's. It's a non-silicon product that incorporates black Results were underwhelming. Yeah it darkened a little bit, but fussy, streaky to apply with the supplied sponge. Fortunately it buffs out evenly, but the sun will do a number on the trim.

I popped the windshield off and used a Headlight Restorer kit on my 7" buffer. That went pretty well, with the shield now remarkably clearer. Still might order that Givi item, and then cut down the stocker for summer rides. Here that's every month except December and January Ordered some touch-up paint that'll be here tomorrow, along with a (Non-K&N) air filter, some 20-g rollers, and a Gates Premium belt. I got a nice $20 cover at Wally-World for now, with a better one ordered online.

FSM (Thanks, Noisy!) says 23.3 wide, and replace below 22.5 (I think...) I can't see how the Malossi would work well at 22.3mm unless I can re-shim the pulley boss. I want to wait until everything's here before stripping the belt cover for a look inside. LMH, did you ever receieve the stock belt? If so, and you have time to measure, I'll be grateful.

Having owned Helix in 2005, I was eager to compare the Reflex when the model was introduced.

Even though I never got the chance to power-up the Reflex,
I was immediately put-off by the drastic difference in rider positioning compared to Helix.

I've still never ridden the Reflex, and I have bought another Helix.

Good looking bike Wheelman... :urban:

Greetings:

Monday evening to spin wrenches, life is Good.

Plastics are high quality, intuitively screwed together. Still, a lot of unfamiliar fasteners. The side cover has a cover, apparently to deaden sound. The outer sheave has fan blades and a filtered air intake with an exit astern. It needs it. The belt cavity is eerily familiar, albeit in Brobdignangian dimensions.

That clutch, like those on modded 4xH.P. Elites, is undersized for the torquey 250 pushing well over 550 pounds of scoot and rider. The pulley is huge, why not make the clutch the same diameter?

The clutch bell is blued from the heat. I de-glazed the three small pads and reinstalled the existing belt, because the Gates item was a mm narrow and at least an inch short. That's a spare ZX belt inside the Flex stocker. Everything's bigger in Flexes.

The K mod wasn't done as the Forum prescribes. The Reflex vario has 3 short ramps with 21-gram rollers and 3 long ones sporting 31 gram weights. One of those is almost the weight of the TOTAL in Flash's vario. Anyway all were replaced withe the amber 20s shown. Acceleration improved a Ton. The 120-gram total is more than the 93 remaining after the K mod, which removes the 3 black 21-gram rollers. Always a fan of symmetry and balance. We'll see what it does to top speed.

very nice work Mr wheelman. :thumbwink: Be interesting to see the top speed.

for extra cooling of your clutch and belt, you can remove the aluminum tape on clutch cover.
behind that tape you will reveal holes.
Replace the plastic cover .
the sponge behind that cover will filter the air.

*that tip is for model years 2004 and up. Not sure 2001 to 2003?
Take a look. Tape should be behind sound deadening plastic cover.
If not. you can drill the holes, add a filter sponge.

Greetings:

Sure enough, the half-dozen holes were taped over on my belt cover as you said. It seems most un-Honda-like for them to design a cover with holes then use tape to cover them. Wonder what the back story is?

HI wheelman. this is my understanding. in Japan the cover made for their market.
They don't have the noise restrictions we have in the US.
In order to meet the restrictions they would have to tape the cover. A cost effective way, aluminum duct tape.

In Japan they also don't use the little round reflectors on the side of the scooter.
In order to import to US, they have to add those on.
a cost-effective way. plastic clip/screw ons on the front. Cheap license plate bracket in the rear.

I do recommend cleaning the rear clutch bell. grease from the clutch gets on it somehow.
don't use brake clean when it's on the clutch. It would only soften the grease and spread it more.
that's just my experience.
