OK so I got a used top end coming from a good running bike. (Thank You again) I'm wondering if it would be any benefit to do some cleaning up the ports and polishing combustion chamber. I been a tool maker and machinist for quite some time and I'm pretty good at polishing and hand working steel. Would there be any benifit to the factory jug and head? Or just clean it up gaskets and go? Also should I hone the cylinder or just check ring gap and decide from there. I can't wait to get the bike running. :)

When I did some slight moding to my af05 stock cylinder it's really opened her up freed up a lot a blocked air flow. All I did was smooth out any casting flaws on the transfers and also matched them to the case where needed, then I opened up the exhaust port and cleaned out and casting flaws there and polished it to chrome. Just cleaning up all the casting errors really helps the flow. As for the hone I would do it just to give you a good cross hatch for your fuel mixture to catch on. Always nice to freshin it up the first time so you don't have to tare it back a part in a week is my opinion!

Well I got the motor put back together. I haven't fired it up yet though. But everything looks and feels great. I'm actually moving this weekend so I haven't been able to do to much with it this week. But I will defiantly keep everyone posted on how its going. Rip City Spree I can't thank you enough. Great forum glad to be a part of it. For donation to this forum do I need a pay-pal account?
