I'm Back: 2000 Elite S Project

Post by Ben L. »

Hello everybody. Its been awhile since I've been on here. Owned an 89 Elite E a few years back.

Yesterday I picked up this Elite. I've been itching to get back into the 2t scooter game. I spent the last few years building old petal mopeds. Mainly a Honda Hobbit and a few Puch's. I can share pics if anybody is interested.

Anyways I picked up this scooter. The body is trashed. Told it needed carb work. It runs and drives but seems to run out of gas at full throttle. Runs great at idle thru mid throttle. I took the main jet out and its got an #89. From what I read it should have a 78. I took the carb completely apart and cleaned/blowed it with compressed air. Float height looks good. I opened up the plugged second air hole in the airbox and took the plate off the variator. (also put a wanted ad in the other section for 80 jet) I'm not entirely sure its the stock carb. PA35kanl

Anybody have an idea of anything else that can be causing my problem? Fuel flow is awesome into the carb. I think its just way rich at WOT.

Sounds like you read it upside down to me sir. I don't believe an 89 jet is made for that carb. 78 is what you want if you are just de-restricting.

Greetings:

According to Deepinnaharta Honda's parts lookup, the 68 is the standard jet for the restricted SA50P Elite S like yours. It's no surprise that it's losing power at higher engine RPM - the mixture goes impossibly lean now that the restriction in the pipe is letting a full-throated song arise. Even more so if you've altered the air intake, or even don't have a well-oiled filter element. The PA carb was designed around a high negative pressure in the airbox assembly to assure a good fuel draw at the carb throat.

Honda made PA jets up to 88 size, and there's a kit from DayWot or Jiangwayne that goes to 110 or so, but for a stock Elite without restrictions may I suggest you order 82, 85 and maybe 88 depending on what you do with the intake.

This weekend I got my order of random hardware for missing airbox, shoud, and carb parts. I also got the jets needed. 78, 80, 85, and 88. Couldn't find any 82 jets :(

Today I installed the #80 and wow it runs like a million bucks!

While I was waiting for parts this weekend I got bored so I picked up this clean Spree on cl.
I shortened the af16 engine mount so the tire doesn't stick so far out of the back.

All thats left to do is get the plastics back on. The exhuast and intake box is in the way so I'll have to do some research on how people took care of that. I don't want to cut into the plastics if I don't have to.

Was just curious where you ordered those jets from? Ebay? Or did you pick them up at a local shop. Just bought an elite and am looking to de-restrict it. What are you getting for too speed right now?
