87 main jet is way too big. an 80 should do the trick. That could be hurting your top end.

I figured the 87 was too big, but even downhills or anywhere it won't reach over 35, so I figured it was something in the trans, when I get time I've gotta pull the plug and check it and buy a few more jets and check things out.

With the right weights and gears you should hit 45 no problem. Check compression and make sure your exhaust isn't clogged.

Compression is good on bike, I think I need to change roller weights, and gears will be a must. I can't find a 1k rear spring for sale, scooterswapshop has a 1.5k but I think that's too much?

youll want to get a couple center springs to be able to fine tune it. I have 4 sitting on the shelf that I tried and it didnt work. just the way it goes. I didnt change my spring till I went with a bbk and it ran fine I was running 6.9 gram rollers in mine with 9.44 final drive gears and it was fine. every bike is different and until your try it to see if it works you dont know. with just the variator and gears I was hitting 45-50 if I remember correctly and at that point I didnt touch the clutch. id try the 1.5 I think it will be fine. eventually you WILL want more speed and having a selection around to play with is good.

Ya I'll have to figure it out, jetting first, then I'm gonna have to try either a 1k or 1.5k center spring and some lighter weights.

Update: finally had time to play with the variator a bit today, I have an aftermarket variator and ramp plate, came with 9g weights. Played around and the best set up was the stock variator with the aftermarket ramp plate and stock weights, bike doesn't take off, 0-3mph sucks, 3mph it kicks in and takes off, 22mph it drops into "2nd" gear, the rear sprig begins compressing then and the rpm's drop out of sight. Also when it's cold runs great, very powerful, once warm, not powerful, I'm running an 87 main, I think it's too rich, to fix the drop in rpm's I think I need a new rear torque/contra spring, the 1k? Some have suggested. Moped does about 42mph once it finally gets there on flat. Any input would be great on what to change.

The stock variators are junk. Any aftermarket varaitor even the $25 eBay ones are more useful. Which aftermarket one did you buy? I would also drop to about a 36 gram load and throw in a 1k center spring. How's your belt?

That's what I thought, so I bought the one that taz sells for $40, cause I didn't feel like spending the $90 on a Polini, but after trying it, the scooter would too out at only 35 I was really shocked. So I tried swapping everything, switching the ramp plates, the roller weights I have, and what I listed have me decent acceleration and the 42mph top speed, so I was confused, as you can tell I'm not some tuning guru, but I have a general idea what's taking place there.

My other question is where can I get a 1k spring, I only see 1500rpm springs for sale, no 1000's, the only ones are from china on ebay and take a month to get here.

I road the moped for about 15 miles on this plug, it wasn't running quite right, seemed hot and powerless, pulled the plug and it was completely white, it has an 87 main in it and I thought that would be way too rich. Most guys suggested low 80's mains like an 82 for a de restricted scooter.

Ya I'm gonna have to try up jetting it to around a 90, but I was shocked it was that lean, most people only use an 82 main or so.

You might have an airleak. Try spraying carb clean around and listen for rpm changes.
