Re: Flash 9/Punkin Showdown

Greetings:

Returning from post office on Punkin, a 2010 Vespa S50 modified with 78cc Malossi cylinder and a Techno exhaust.

Wheel-boy was astride Flash 9 when we hit the 1/2-mile. 50MPH limited strip to our turn-off home. Flash 9, I will remind the reader, is a humble de-tuning of SA50 from a Fire-Breathing Fabrizi to a more modest Polini Contesta iron cylinder. It has the ZX transmission conversion, 9:1 gears, but still running the stock airbox, carb and exhaust.

Predictably we opened both throttles wide departing from the PO. Wheel-boy, who weighs about the same as I do, jumped to a 15-foot lead, whereupon Punkin hit its stride and we achieved nearly-identical 54MPH top speeds when it was time to slow for the turn. For beating the old man, I notified the Authorities of his speeding. His arrest is pending. :)

Greetings:

The Vespa is physically a lot bigger and about 100 pounds heavier than the SA50. You have to spend considerably more money to get it to the peak of its potential with aftermarket parts, and still not as quick or fast as a Honda with all the top-shelf parts. (Corsa, MHR or Fabrizi...) But I will say the handling and especially the brakes on the Vespa feel more substantial and solid.

Honda for giggles, Vespa for riding Dignified... Both are fun!

fun thread. why did you go with contessa over corsa for this build. maybe corsa would push you to the 60+ range...

Greetiings:

Been there, along with a vintage Nickel-Silicon underperforming 78cc cylinder kit, through the late, lamented USED Corsa sold to my by an 808 member that would have lasted longer if I had been able to find the "lost" wrist pin circlip. I finally found the Legendary Fabrizi 78 and that one exceeded 70 mph after some tweaking. However Ms. Wheel-person put the Kibosh on All-Drama, All the Time high-strung rev monster kits. She asked for Sedate, until she realized just how sluggish a stock 50cc cylinder really is. Heeding her complaint, and keeping the stock intake tract and exhaust, the Contesta was the choice for Torquey, low-revving power, and still pushes 60 MPH with the 9:1 gears. For her it was the best choice.
