Greetings:

My Polini worked best with a #90 main. I'd advise AGAINST drilling the pilot. As long as you have Noisy's filter well-oiled, the small-ish pilot isn't an issue with the sport cylinders. Do get a temp gauge and confirm this holds true with Malossi Iron as well. I recommend 9.1:1 gears. Take-off is hardly affected, and you should hit 50-55 no problem.

Well I got the 72cc, springs and jet installed. It kicked over no problem. I only let it run for 5 seconds as I am waiting for a cht before heat cycling.

fwiw, your main on stock carb will be heavily affected by whether you mod the stock airbox, or leave it alone. was able to run as low as an 84main with stock airbox and contessa sport cyl. with 2nd slit on airbox opened up, had to go up to an 94main to keep temps in check, 355-360F max most conditions. also, I'm running the dual stage foam filter that flows bit more than stock.

don't worry about pilot. adjust needle clip 1 position (lower) richer, and you're gucci.

performance definitely picks up when you mod the airbox and tune for it, but you'll obviously burn more fuel.

9:1 gears are great for all around. but you can't beat the uphill pulling ability and holeshot with 9.8:1, at cost of some top end of course. pick your poison :)
projects galore :nerd:

Good deal. I have knocked out the second tab is the airbox, and a filter bought off here. 92 is the biggest jet I have, so I will make sure to change the needle and keep an eye on temps. Haven't ridden it yet as I have been busy.

After a few heat cycles I finally took it out for a short ride around not taking it above 1/2 throttle. With a couple of pretty steep hills only saw 306 on the cht max. With the temps so low should I down jet, or continue as is since I hadn't been using WOT? Thanks

1/2 throttle at 306 doesnt indicate a need for a jet change. How does it react when you blip the throttle 0-3/4? If it sounds muddy, rich. If the rpm’s hang before returning to idle, lean. Try the mixture screw before swapping jets.

Once youre happy with the throttle response, take it for a rip and adjust the jetting based on temps.

370=all day long, let er eat!
380=lift..do not continue..too lean or air leak
400=walking

I felt a like it bogged at lower rpm. But I will check again and listen for possible hanging idle or anything else. I will definitely adjust the air screw before anything else.
Thanks

Went to try and adjust the fuel mixture screw till I felt it sounded better on the stand then attempted a ride. It fell on its face and wouldn't Rev up. Returned the air screw back, and no better. Now it doesn't want to start without throttle or stay running. It even backfired while kicking. I blew out the carb, but no better.

A little update. Turns out the 92 jet was so rich, it fouled a new plug in about half a tank. After a little more trial, error and test riding I am now running the 88 jet and it is running great, a little cool even. With running WOT for a bit I have only seen 325F on the CHT once or twice.
I have just swaped the gears for 9:1. I decided to sand down the nylon washer down to the width of the thrust washer, as I wanted to maintain similar setup to stock (also didn't want to wait for delivery.) During the process of gear swapping I finally decided to check the belt width. It only measured 14.7. I couldn't find what was considered out of spec, but seems far enough away from 15.5 I have ordered another bando. Pretty happy with how everything is looking now With a little tweaking here and there this setup seems to be pretty close. Thanks for everyone's help up to this point.

Now that its jetted, trans tuning is next. Contra, ZX, clutch springs, rollers, variator shims, etc…

I have the s23 1500 contra and springs in, malossi for ruckus variator (with the case clearanced and cover spaced.) I have rollers for tuning. Currently running 3X7g + 3X6g rollers in. The zx pulley and belt is definitely something I would like to do next with the 97mm variator, as I think it is the best bet for getting the most out of it. Definitely still figuring out the trans.

I typically run 3x5g and 3x5.5g with the ZX and Polini for Ruck vari. Takes off like a slingshot. Tough to keep the front wheel down. Good for around town, urban assault.

Another scoot has all 6.5g with 8:1 gears. No neck snapping take-offs but tops out close to 70mph around 11k rpms. Back country road carver.
