The clutches are directional. The shoes swing out pivoting from either a "clockwise" or "counterclockwise" pivot point. This causes a firmer engagement because the friction of the pad tends to "lock" the shoe outward. Because Sprees and SB engines spin "backwards", their clutches are likely a mirror image of those for the variated engines that spin the other way. I have NOT verified this personally, but I'd expect the wrong clutch to slip a lot because it loses the self-locking effect if it spins the wrong way. Your mileage may vary.
