spree/dio anyone else? What is the best Mount

Post by thajuggla0911 »

Hello all!!!! I have recently acquired a 1987 Spree.... with full intention of swapping it... I was looking for the easiest swap as this is my first 2t build... I have a dio case.... I ordered this because it has the most aftermarket support while trying to stay true to Honda... With that being said I am trying to find the best solution on a mount... Ive read several things about a no weld mount. I honestly see little issues with making my own... what is the most common mount for the af16e swap to spree frame? thanks in advance... I am also new to this forum stuff so be easy on me!!!!! :newb:

Hey Jumpy, how did you prep the mount before you could install it? Yes, that mount was from an sa50 Elite '94-'01.

Well first after jumping up and down for a bit at my excitement. I cut the one side down to hit within the spree mount area and cut the bump stop down to where it kinda apexes and rounded it so theres no rubber but it still keeps the scooter from doubling over like a folder if it hits a bump. Also to fit the shock I just drilled a hole through the frame behind the battery. Grade 10 bolt and washers and nut. Very strong feeling. I had no clue what I was doing.

Thats the best pic I have

If you pm me a number or a facebook or email I will send you more detailed pictures. In honesty I am too lazy to deal with uploading them from a phone its too d*** big of a hassle.

Bu the trick to getting it right for me was my trust wall mounted grinder wheel. And the the wire wheel to strip it for welding the frame for stronger wheelies.

This is how the mount turned out local welder charged me 50 bucks cash for that. Dont know if thats a deal or a ripoff so I am happy. Took a little off the left side of the mount with a demal and a grinder. Feels solid with grade 10 bolt through it spaced on both sides with washers to keep the nut from backing out.

What I did with the stopper on the mount was shorten it to my liken lots of people cut them down then reweld for that luxury suspension the spree offers. I like it a little stiffer that the average cowboy..

Bonesv showed me this method that he found or saw or a friend did ( something along those lines ) and it also looks like an easier path than welding to be honest.

With the mount I used it makes it so much longer and unless you hard tail it you need to cut down the stock headlight moulnt and its a hassle my headlight quit working after the abuse of the skill saw being used with little to none skill.

You can do the swap without welding and maybe without cutting just drilling, well I take that back you gotta cut down the width of the mount but after that you can get plate steel from a fabicater for really cheap and drill 4 holes for your mount. Then the one hole that is behind the battery for shock replacement mount. I personaly wanted ride a little in the midzone so mine is kinda close to where the rectifer sits or used to had to relocate it and now the wheel smacks it. Lol

Any way It qas a fun swap, I am personaly still fighting with a top end kit I got and cant get it to seal without a airleak forming. Have fun, be safe, the bracing is not needed but I highly advise I mean look at the qeight limit the spree holds... you hit a bump hard doing 45 and you doubling your weight practically in the fast dip the suspension takes.

Heres the welds I got done on my spree, feels very solid, I had a piece run the bottom part to hokd it on and it is not goin anywhere along with the trimmed up sa50 mount it is very solid and isnt wobbly or anything.
