See if you can press the oil pump plug in a little mine went in deeper than that and needed spacing to fit right.

It does go further down. Wasn't sure if it was supposed to bottom out or not, and just have something to keep it from coming out?

I made mine bottom out using a bunch of washers the size of the top of it. I am not sure though. It would only make sense to me is why they add a screw hole is to hold washers.

I thought the threaded hole was to just get it out if needed lol. I could be wrong but would think they would just machine it longer on top on it to accommodate the difference.

Either way, there is an o-ring present to prevent any "bypass" so would it matter if its up or down as long as it can't come out?

I have a small issue:
Installed my new trans gasket and tightened the bolts down and the gears are harder to spin by hand. Even with the clutch bell on i can turn it by the clutch bell but its a little tight.

I know of guys having issues with the aftermarket gears rubbing on the inside of the case but i dont feel/hear any metal-to-metal.

When i loosen up the trans cover bolts just a hair, it spins freely. Is this tension normal with SSS (16x42) gears? But that loose would result in leaks of gear oil i assume. I dont have the bolts really tight at all, just snug and you can feel the tension increase as you tighten them more.

Thanks in advance!

Make sure the washer is in the right spot and somethimes the washer needs to be nylon or something. This is a question for g9, he knows this stuff to the dot.

Did you press yhe new gear all the way on? I belive if you dont it can ride up on it and bind. That is what is happening is a gear is slightly off or a washer is missing and its being pushed against the case wall binding. It wont make a noise normally but mine clicked at first until I moved my washer.

Most of the aftermarket gears require taking the washers out. You don't want any binding, it needs to spin freely

I had the same issue with the same exact gears from him. I was worried about removing any washers and having unecessary friction. I ended up sanding the outside casing where the nipple on the smaller gear inserts in its hole. Basically taking out the same amount of meat as a washer. Found out later after consulting with g9 u just remove the washer.

Heres a pic of when i first took the trans cover off. Yes the new gear is pressed on alt he way.

So take off this washer and thats it? Its the only washer in there on the counter shaft.

Glad u got it fixed. In ur last pic there was that washer visible on the left side gear. My gear also had a nylon washer behind that. Still unsure which one to remove as i took a different more jurrastic route to fix mine. So steel, or nylon washer removal? Like ur other gasket post, that year might not have the nylon behind the gear. The casings are different.
