Slimmed down Spree luggage rack

Post by Meatball »

I know some of you may think its a sin to deface such a beautiful piece of art but I was just sick of the crazy wide luggage rack blinkers. I ground off the factory welds on the metal tabs that hold on the blinkers. Cut 2 inches off the tubes and welded them back on! Taking extra care in the placement and spacing before putting the spark to it, of course. I think it turned out great and it took about 45minutes from beginning to end. Also, the rubber covers nicely cover up any welding imperfections, if any.

Awe man, if I would have known you were planning on doing that, I would have swapped you. Mine has a slight bend about in the spot where you hacked it off. Would have been a win/win. You'd have your shortened blinkers, and I'd have a rack in better shape... oh well.. looks good though.

It really wasn't a planned thing. Just did it on a whim. Sounds like your rack is a great candidate for this mod  !

Probably. I don't particularly care for the long blinkers either. I'll have to think about it and maybe try it this winter after the riding season is over. Need an excuse to weld something anyway.

Actually, no I WON'T try it. Now that I am looking at it a little closer, it won't work for me. I have an aftermarket trunk and the base for it extends past the rack. The blinkers would be in the way.

You'll bend them less, I'm always bending my spree signal lights, had to reweld the tabs a few times over the years. I think that looks sharp :thumbwink:

I have an 87' rack if you need one. That way it wont have the turn signals built into it like the 84-86''s do.

I like the stock blikers their like sliders to protect my carb and motor/tire from damage. I mean yeah they look bulky but honda onew little kids would thrash these bikes and build them to wistand. Ive already lowsided the bike once before, blinkers saved my side panal from looking ugly.
