Benched bike a 1985 spree with no plastics installed. Weight reduction bro.

Broke my cases down and installed new bearings and seals.

Tried my hand at very crude porting.

What kind of tools are you using for the port work? Air die grinder with a burr bit?

So my fan bolts are completely tight but the fan can still wobble on the mag. Is this normal for the 1985 spree or could there be the wrong bolts or sacers are missing or something? Its definatly thr fan moving beacuse the mag is solid.

Are you talking about the plastic white fan that mounts with just 2 tiny bolts? On my 85 motor, the bolts cinch it down tight and has NO wobble at all to the mag. However, when I rock the fan back and forth by hand there IS a little bit of play there before it actually spins the motor internals. At first I thought my rod bearings were worn but after checking my buddy's 86' Spree, his had the same amount of play. This was back in June and I rode it all Summer without issue.

The fan shouldn't move on the mag. There is no washers on that attachment. There IS tiny metal rings embedded in the fan plastic bolt holes for the bolts to tighten down on. So as not to crank down onto the soft plastic. Maybe one fell out?

Also, be careful not to use the wrong bolts on the fan! If the bolts are TOO LONG they will protrude into the stator and destroy the internals when spun.

--------------------

My plans for this bike as of right today this minute is...

Bbk
Scorpian 72cc pipe retrofitted to the spree motor. Not a dio or af50e varied motor a spree motor.
Ax23 belt
1986 gearing
Shaved head
Shaved pully
Maybe gears with a stock belt.
Dio clutch with high rev engagement.
Cut stock contra

Many other things.

Maybe including some professional porting if the pipe proves potential.

Don't think I'd try the AX23 in addition to the gears. That's a terrible takeoff waiting to happen, but top speed would be pretty good. Then again, the results of doing so would be interesting to see.

Edit: oh wait, you said with STOCK belt... my bad.

I got the big bore kit on the bike and am waiting for a few gaskets and other parts in the mail. For now its mounted on the bike and the case is back on. My gear cover is binding with the gears if I tighten it too much. What can cause this?

I remember mine did that too. My cover was mis-aligned a tiny bit when I cranked down the bolts. Youd think it would just tighten up in the right spot but it didn't, theres some play in there. I had to lift "up" on the gear cover when tightening down the bolts and it spins freely now.
