Post by Volvo850R »

Hey guys quick question. IÔÇÖm going to send my clutch in to be relined do I have to take the pully off first? IÔÇÖm assuming I do to help with shipping costs. If so how do I remove it? Thanks

When I sent my clutches in, I sent them the whole thing, including bell. They will bead blast the bell if you ask (for a small additional fee). Even replace the springs for free if you provide them with the new ones.

I typically have great success with my handy impact gun with the proper socket. However, Ive had a couple stubborn clutch bell nuts that required the use of a strap wrench wrapped around the bell to hold it still while attacking the nut with a breaker bar. Theres also a ÔÇ£holder toolÔÇØ thats made speciffically for holding the bell in place while wrenching on said nut but a strap wrench was already in my tool box and worked just the same. If youre handy, you could also MAKE a device to hold it still as well.

I do suggest sending the bell in with the clutch since they offer the service of de-glazing for a few bucks more. Makes no sense to go through the process of getting the clutch re-lined just to use it with a toasted bell.

I may have mis-interpreted your question...if youre referring to disassembling the clutch itself to ship ONLY the shoes (as eclark indicated) I would send them the entire unit. It saves much headache on your end and depending on the shop youre sending it to, they may offer the service of refreshing the pulley surfaces.

Might I also recommend a fresh belt while youre at it?
