Panel Restoration

Post by jdsime1 »

Doing it the hard way on the old 87 with the body panels. Started sanding all by hand with 220 grit, a razor blade and a Scotch-Brite pad. Then 320, more blade and pad since it had such a rough sand job prior followed by 400 and 500, which is where it is now. Will be seeing 600, 1000 and 1200 before the buff and polish. Very long and labor intensive process, but the results are amazing so far. No deep scrapes and super smooth. Will post pics of the finished product when I get there. 🛵💥💨💨💨

Nice work, keep me posted on what you are going to use to polish them.

Have you tried the flamethrower method?
I need to find some new haters...the ones I have are starting to like me.

Yep. Did the other panel that way. The pics shows the heat-treated one and the finish sanded (to 1200) one side-by-side. They both need buffed, polished and waxed yet, but I'm pretty pleased with the results so far.

Decals are on. Since it now has a BBK, I figured the Piston Honda decal was fitting. Some of you fellow old-timers might appreciate that one! LOL 😁
