Vapor Installation, Sort Of
Greetings:
The biggest PITA for me was removing all the plastics -Again - and clearin out my Tiny Tach, Trail Tech temp gauge and funky Chinese tach wiring. Otherwise, installation might have taken 2 hours.
I started by locating the Vapor head unit, handlebar bracket bolt was Just Barely big enough. Those grips are really glued in there too. I notched the charcoal handlebar behind the mirror to route the wires.
I had a trail tech TTO WITH extension wire. Otherwise don't start the project until you get one because the sensor wire is just a foot long. The display won't read engine temp until the engine warms a bit, so don't worry. Ambient temp feature might be handy for tuning.
The red wire to the ignition switch is always hot. Used a splicing connector there and re-used a ground under the voltage regulator I had previously set up. The display went live and bright, easy to read day or night. Yay!
The tach wire is pretty short, but made it to the coil wire where it loops around the right frame tube clamp. Not much to spare, but enough and it works.
The speed sensor needed a little bracket, but found a home - for now - at the trailing link pivot. The bolt protrudes enough to take a thin bracket, held on by a 12mm hex nut. That left the magnet...I initially mounted it to the rim using a drop of Honda bond. The magnet doesn't really want to move, the adhesive grey color matches my Met wheel, and I didnt feel like messing with JB Weld. It has since been remounted to the flange of the rim - just at the very edge - with JB Weld.
One snag with this assembly was revealed on a test ride; the wheels moves enough with repect to the link pivot for light contact to have occurred under braking. I may need to modify my bracket or try another location, but the speedo is accurate with my wheel diameter programmed to 1283mm for my Metzler 90/90s on Met rims. I put a splat of paint on the tire, rolled it until it made 2 splots on the floor, then measured.

Greetings:
Well it seems the front wheel moves backward under braking with respect to the link pivot. My first bracket put the sensor bolt inside the rim, causing the contact. I relocated the magnet to the outer flange of the rim, and moved my new bracket outboard a few mm . Fortunately the pickup works even within a half-inch of the magnet, unlike bicycle speedos that dang near must be touching to work. So here 't'is all shiny: Thanks to Graphite 9 for a good deal and for stepping up for extension wires. I could use one too for another project if you're buying.

Does it matter if the magnet is on the drum or the outer part of the wheel?

Greetings:
Original post edited to reflect what I've learned. More pics to come.
Pauly's right - it doesn't matter if one click per wheel spin comes from the hub or from the rim. Drilling and tapping the brake assembly is hard, requires disassembly. My way (if it works, still haven't done a panic stop...) is all external.
Put a splat of Elmer's glue (or paint, or anything wet...) on the tire rim. Roll it until there are two splots on the floor, then measure. 48.5 inches in my case with the Metzler 90/90s on Met rim. Multiply by 25.4mm/inch and use that number in the Settings on the Vapor.

Greetings:
If you mean the Vapor, I enlarged the mirror hole in the handlebar cover just enough for the 4 wires to pass. The hole is mostly covered by the V head unit. I really like not having to look down by the key to check temp and RPM. SHOULDA DONE THIS 5 YEARS AGO.

You really want it to be on the larger circumference for less error at higher revolutions.

A Shot from the Back
Greetings:
A pic from underneath the Vapor, as requested:Sorry it's too big. Just getting used to a new phone camera. Can't quite see the notch I carved in the mirror hole in the bar cover either, but that's how the wires route.

Hi WM. I had to use my 40'' monitor to see the whole photo you posted with your 9,000 megapixel camera phone.
just joking.
too bring down the pixels on the galaxy 10,000. go to camera hit settings adjust resolution. hope this helps.
Very nice work with the wire tuck. how many hours or days with the setup? joking. how long it took you?![lol ](./images/smilies/lol.gif)
