I did it.
Shave the whole d*** thing off and the space it with washers.

Too many factors to just say take off x amount.

Belt size and stretch of the belt make a huge difference.

So shave it all down and tune with the thinnest washers you can find.

Make sure you put washers on the front and back side of the front pully so that the starter gear still engages correctly.

ok why both sides of the front pulley? dont you just want to put your spaceing on the back of the front pulley? not concerned with with elec starter bbk has a little to much compresion for it to work well anyway. so take the 3/32 off the inside and space the back of the front pulley. now about the belt, stock or go with the gates 7240 or the AX-24

if you shave the inner half of the pully down, you change how far in the outer face can go. the splines only go so far, as do the threads on the end of the crank, so without washers spacing out the rear half the pully it will rattle around loose on the crank. and the belt would be crooked.

if you get a bunch of thin washers (equaling the approximate thickness as what you shaved off the pully), you can change and tune your gear ratio by moving the washers from behind the pully to between the two halves. the thinner the washers, the more you can fine-tune. tried and true method.
t-jamz and i retune our pullies depending on where we're riding. with the entire stack-o-washers behind the now nub-less rear half of the front pully, our sprees go 37 and 38, t-jamz's being a taz bbk in untuned form, mine a port tuned stock bore. i creep away because i can rev out a bit better. i cant wait to play w/ the 44mm port :mrgreen:
unfortunatly, they don't really take off on their own. due to the change in the ratio between the front and rear pullies, the clutch enguages at a lower rpm (just above a low idle) and it turns out the spree makes no power at 800rpm :roll: you could re-spring the clutch or lighten the clutch to compensate, but i've never done it m'self.
i just push, and only gear it like that for long trips on flat terrain. most of the time, my pully is close to the stock location. still goes 32 on flat ground, and quick at that.

thats what i meant,put the stack on the back side of the nubless part of the front pulley. i dont do much hill climbing. its pretty flat around here. onlt 2 hills i would ever run up if i go that far. no need to.

d00d okay pulley mods. you change ur gear ratio, makes the belt ride higher, u can fine tune with washers or get a shorter belt and achieve similar results with less control. but u must maintain the same belt geometry with washers on both sides of the pulley. also it gets hotter down there with the higher rpm. cause thats what ur doing: making the engine turn faster. also read the tech docs with all the info about this.

NOW: porting the door to true speed.
also, clutch modding? any suggestions?

ok which belt do you recomend? stock,the gates #7240,or the napa AX-24. oh and would you split the difference? or place what you remove on the back of front pulley and space the front or what?

go with stock length. im not sure what u mean in the second part there, but,
whatever u shave of the the drive pulley(the nub) you must replace on the backside of the drive pulley, or else the belt will look like this / instead of this | .

what i meant was say i take all of the spacer off. do i replace that measurement on the back side,or do i split that measurement and put half on back and half on front. or do i place all that i shaved on back and just put a couple of washers on the outer pulley make since? it does in my mind when i picture what im doing.
lll= spacer
[]= permaspacer

1. lll[] all removed on back

2 lll[]lll split the difference

3. lll[]l all on back with minamal washer on front
and the adv tech says ill need a longer belt. but i dont know thats why i ask if anybody has done it.

i am running a longer, wider belt (i think 1/2 x 24) but not for performance reasons. it cost less than half of the stock belt's price. it gained me no speed over my stock belt, and actually reduced my top end over the pully-modded setup with the stock belt, as it sits higher up in the rear pully. soon enough, i'll tear down the ol' stock engine and take lots-o-pictures. (not to go off subject, but i plan on documenting my port changes, SPREEtown, as i've been asked about it repeatedly. i gained 4-5 mph on port tuning alone. best single mod the spree can get in my opinion)

as far as where the washers should reside, all i can tell you is; trial and error.
if you assemble everything and the belt looks crooked from the front to rear pullies, you need to move your washers around. i change my setup alot, and i hate to admit that my process is less than scientific. i'm just a moron with a pretty quick spree (17.669 1/8 mile on a tuned stock nq50), but the whole thing has been a learning curve. i try alot of things, some of them work. such it the story of scooter tuning. you should see the "2nd gear" that trafficjams and i came up with. it's an idler pully that pushes the belt further into the rear pully. cool s***, but as we did it with leftover audi parts, i can't really bother with a writeup, as no one would want to spend on german car parts to mod their spree in a way that requires no kick cover to be present. it's started with a power drill with the kick start cup stuck in the chuck. but it works :roll:
