Dies/locks up while riding.

Post by JONESER »

My buddy has a '96 Elite and just today it started to lock up & die while riding then is hard as * to start.

I think its the clutch, reason being is mine did the same thing months ago and I believe the clutch thats on his use to be on mine.
Its weird because that clutch has been on his for months and has never done this until today.
His scoot has always started right up too until this started.

Any ideas?
Were gonna swap out clutches with mine to see if mine starts to lock up, die & hard to start.

THANKS in advance!!

what has been done to the bike and give specs that way we know what might be the cause of the lockup.but to me it sounds like a heat seize if your riding and it does it.
Nothing like getting stroked!

Generally a locked up motor while running means you siezed the engine. Either no oil or too lean.

Ok, I guess I used the wrong wording. The engine doesnt lock up. As youre riding, the rear tire locks up for a split second and the scoot dies. Then its a pain in the * to get started again.
His scoot has gears, variator, 72cc big bore. Like I said, mines has done the same thing in the past and I dont have a big bore.

Will the clutch cause this to happen?

It's called a soft seize, which if you don't fix the lean mixture it will lead to a hard seizure and a junk motor.
