af05 to af18 swap?

Post by C3Killer »

I currently have an '87 that I would like to get faster. I have been pondering an af18 motor, but does anyone have any advice as to how this will mount up? How hard is it going to be to get this to mount up to my '87 Elite? I have tried searching, but can't get much to come up.

ive done one its easy. use 87 mount and need dowel inserts to acomidate for smaller bolt. just splice wires color for color.

The bolt sizes that attach the engine are different sizes. the af18e bolt is larger, so the afo5 mount would have to be drilled out to accept the new bolt. A Longer or shorter shock may be needed also .

Wiring should be fairly easy. Honda uses the same color wire throughout many years of scooters.

theres two ways to skin a cat. the advice ive gotten from here is awesome, two heads are always better than one. i was able to use the same rear shock. the dowels in the kickstart cover work perfect. if you have access to the right tools the other way would seem to be more sturdy.

I forgot to mention that I have the shock off of an R6, do you think this will be too harsh a ride. The R6 weighs WAY more than this little Elite.

That was a no, don't use it, IF I weighed less than 300 lbs right? Thats kinda what I was thinking. It is soo stiff, my 170 lb body wouldn't budge it.....but it does look cool!

Remote reservoir shocks are available for scoots if that is what you want. Don't buy a "swift velocity" shock though, they come apart :surprise:

if you can find a skinner less tention spring to put in,it should work. but yeah your to light for that shock and your kidneys will thank you for not using it.

The dowels from the kickstart cover work perfect as said, just don't lose them if you pull your motor mount bolt for whatever reason.
These bikes fly with a good motor on it.

the way you mounted your motor is the same exact way i mounted my motor on my aero. iv ridden it for at least 3 years now and had no problems with the looseness of the motor because of the dowel pins. just be sure to tighten your shock very well because mine came loose because of the vibration.
