tw39515 is the one who mentioned the oil pump and it's starting to look like his troubleshooting skills might be better than yours . Anyways, i agreed since my wifes elite does the exact same thing...starts, runs a little crappy while smoking more than usual, can hardly give it much throttle, then clears up and runs great.

With incomplete info from the OP, it becomes a matter of luck and that never proves who is a better diagnostician. You notice that he NOW says it smokes. Gee who said, if it was an oil issue it would smoke?

Sorry about not telling about the oil smoke just assumed.This is not a daily driver. I might ride it every weekend. I did put the split throttle/oil cable on and this was the restricted model elite"s". Could that have affected the oil pump in anyway?
Im not here to argue, just to help people out and not talk down to them. no the cable shouldnt have any thing to with it as long as it is adjusted properly.

Bear, after reading this entire thread, I've come to the conclusion that you have rather poor presentation skills. You're the one with the defensive stance, as well as making several assumptions. Most of what you have "contributed" is attitude, a bit of unwarranted anger, and is flat-out childish. YOU seem to know a great amount of things, it's your overall presentation/ communications skills that YOU should work on. Why such hostility and anger?
This is a forum where we all share ideas, knock off the anger/ attitude.

Again you miss the point. The OP said Nada, zilch, nothing about excessive smoke in his original post and to jump to an oil issue shows NO troubleshooting skills what so ever. I did say that excessive smoke would be present if it was actually an excess oil issue, but you all ignore that an pretend to know what you are talking about. I made a living troubleshooting 2 strokes for years and the logic used in this thread would get you canned from the job ASAP. I still don't think it is an oil issue, because almost any 2 stroke will smoke more than normal on start up because as the fuel in the engine evaporates due to residue heat, the oil remains. And that oil has to be burnt off on the next start up. You can say what you want but I've fixed more 2 strokes than 99 persent here and got paid for it, I do know what I'm talking about.
It is actually your attitude that stinks, as you really have no basis to question my abilities or knowledge. It is not my mission in life to kiss any little whinner's *. If they don't like the facts and the truth, then go the * away and shut up.
