Stuck on 85' spree. Turns Over Won't Start

Post by Spree-Mart 24/7 »

Hey Fella's,

I've been working on this 85' spree in the shop. It was a complete Mess when i got it,
I have replaced the ignition switch, new gas tank (off ebay), new fuel filter, Compression is 110,
new spark plug and ignition coil, Air Filter, And carb. I have a nice blue spark, and gas IS getting to the bowl.
Its turning over but doesnt even sound like its attempting to start.

Anyoe with some ideas please let me know
Ive never been stuck on a scooter like this one..

Thanks.

When I see you post that gas IS getting to the bowl, makes me ask.....is gas getting to the cylinder??......several possibilities......bystarter bad?.....airbox in place?,...and tight?...all jets and passages clear?.....will it fire with gas introduced manually through carb throat?.....keep trying..... :urban:

Air box is in place. i have several bystarters and none made it start. and i have sprayed gas into the carbs throat and tried starting it..still nothing. im gunna see if puting gas directly in cyl head will make run for couple seconds

You could have bad reeds or case seals in this case. If it fires with gas (premix only please) then it is seals or reeds.

The woodruff key is the crescent shaped key that fits in the slots in the crankshaft and the flywheel that aligns the flywheel to the crankshaft for timing purposes. If the flywheel nut is not tight so that the tapers of the crank and the flywheel do not hold the flywheel in place, the key will shear because it is for alignment purposes only. If the flywheel has not been off, this is not a likely issue.

i know this is a really dumb question considering how much work youve done on it, but...but being an 85 it is e-start only..is your battery fully charged? and secondly...have you readjusted the idle/air screws on the carb properly, and if proper...try tuning them in and out a hair at a time until you find it.

Btw: I needed a woodruff key for my Honda C110 yesterday. Dealer was closed so I went to Ace hardware. Cost me $1.67.

All the woodruff key does is make sure the flywheel and crankshaft are aligned for assembly. When you torque the nut, the interference between the tapers on the flywheel and the shaft holds the flywheel in place. At Johnrude school the torqued a flywheel nut to spec. Ran the engine, the shut it off and removed the nut all together and ran the engine again, to proof the interference stuff works. Admittedly it was only a 45 second run but they went to WOT with it. We were told it was a neat school trick but leave the nut torqued.
