High Idle to Stall

Post by jlynn433 »

I recently got my bike running and it was perfectly fine at first. Now my problem is that when i go to ride it it has a really high idle (wants to take off if you dont have your hand on the brake) and the rpm will go up and down then it lowers, and stalls. i have no idea what the * this is and any help is greatly appreciated.

sounds like the idle screw is in too far and the fuel/air screw isnt adjusted right. tightened the nut below where the handlebar is on the throttle cable till it has very little or no play in it THEN adjust your idle with the air 1 and 1/2 turns out once it is idling fine then slowly turn the air screw out with the throttle 1/4 open etc etc to get the fuel/air just right :D then readjust the idle screw if need be

Sounds more like a vacuum leak. Make sure all the intake nuts and bolts are tight, including the air box.

ok so i didnt plug the exhaust holes, and i have a breather filter on it. it ran fine until now. i have no idea whats wrong now because i put a brand new gasket between the reeds and manifold and tightened the f*** out of the bolts that hold the mani on and the bolts that hold the carb on the mani. i fixed a gas line leak with saran wrap and duct tape (hooray for the rednecks) but other than that everything seems ok.. im just about fed up with this thing to * it and call it a day, but i put too much work into my baby so thats outta the question. im thinking an af18 swap :|

compression check first before you throw it away. plug the exhaust holes, it is a vac leak. recheck torque on cyl. head. maybe put factory exhaust back on to see how it runs, will be rich on the main with an 85 but would still idle decent.

*fixed it* :D there was still a hole in the gas line, thus sucking in air with the gas. so i went and got new line. my jets arrived today too and im running an 85 but have thoughts of a 95 due to lean running bogging out... thanks guys
