hi
I stripped down my variator on my 50cc aero, the variator and all the roller weights was packed with thick black grease so i cleaned it all out using carb cleaner and removed all the grease and replaced it dry (no grease at all) is this correct? i also removed the outer ring (the bit that holds the ramp place in location) and refitted it into the bike without it, is this also correct to get a few more MPH?
Any help would be great
thanks

Yes to both questions. Were any of the rollers flat spotted?

Re: honda aero variator question
yeah they were a little not massively but noticeable. When running the bike i only seem to get 25 - 30mph from it, does that sound about right for the model?
Re: honda aero variator question
Any flat spot means they are no longer rollers, but sliders and need to be replaced.

You should measure the belt while you have it open.

Sorry to dig up an old-ish thread, but by ring that holds the ramp in place, are you referring to that back plate with three screws holding it on? In the service manual I have, it's called a face seal...are they the same? Will removing this help me get a few more mph? I have an 83 aero 50 btw.
