I Just ordered a new CDI. Have you checked your flywheel key? If so, I'll let you know if the CDI fixes it. In the meantime, remove yours, shake it, and blow into the connector. I got mine to start and run for a minute by doing this. Obviously it's not a permanent fix lol

Spark is rarely if ever at TDC, almost always BTDC.

I removed the flywheel last week and the key was fine. I ordered a CDI.

Key was intact. I ordered a new CDI.

The kill switch being on could be making a better path to ground.
Because it is so lean or rich that it is 4 stroking, is why.

There is no way this is a starter issue.

The kill switch being on could be making a better path to ground. The kill switch goes only to the CDI and is totally separate from the starting circuit.

Back in the 70's ( yes I'm old ) I had a 360 Husqvarna ( the one with the big bolt sticking up by your jewels ), left side kick start with a lot of compression . One day I started it -it backfired and quit ! Kicked it again and started right up , put it in gear let the clutch out and what the *, I'm going BACKWARDS !!! What happened is when it backfired it sheared the key and the fly moved on the crank ! By the way 2-strokes run as good backwards as frontwards . Thats the way old boat motors had reverse > you would shut the motor off move a lever changing the timing start it back up and you were in reverse !

New CDI fixed the problem.

Superbee : Thats good news because I went ahead and ordered one from the same place as you . It just came in the mail today . Bad news is my Spree is 50 mi. away and I'm not going back till later next week. If the new CDI and coil fixes mine they will have to do a new chapter in Wikspreedia !

So - I replaced the CDI and coil and had no luck . What next the stator ? The new CDI has a LED that should light every time it fires . No light but still has a weak spark . Has anyone else ever had to replace a stator ?

Okay. Maybe your flywheel magnet has gotten weak. Stick something to it and make sure it's not super easy to pull off. Check your magnet pickup and make sure it's not bent. Your plug should be gapped at .24-.28 if I remember the manual correctly. I have mine set at .25. I don't remember if I asked you, did you pull the flywheel and check the key?

I have never ever heard of this happening.

Spending money and throwing parts at the engine may well fix it sometime in the future, but a little troubleshooting will confirm what is bad and what is not and fix it with one purchase of parts. But it is your time and money, do it however you want.
