Post by Mystic »

Just so I am clear on this, to derestrict the sb50p i need to replace the exhaust with one from a spree and upjet the carb right? I have done a little searching but nothing concrete yet

Also I find this odd, I took the oil pump off to check the oring cause I noticed some liquid around the pump and i pulled the shaft out and oil continued to drip out almost pour with the oil lines still connected. Is it supposed to do this or is the pump somehow bad?

I heard you need the sb50 exhaust. Not too sure though. I just picked up a 1990 SB50P a couple days ago. I'm wondering if a derestricted SE50 exhaust will work. I have one kicking around that I might try bolting on.

the se50 exhaust wont work, the exhaust angle on the cylinder is different :P the sb50 pipe would be harder to find than a Spree pipe and both basically use the same cylinder. thanks for the suggestion though

No aftermarket pipes available? That would be great.

jiangewayne has an aftermarket nonrestricted pipe but you have to do some modification to get it to fit, thats about it lol

This is ok. The inlet of the oil pump feeds oil to the area of the pump around the drive shaft. It's a free path once the shaft is pulled, hence stream of oil.

I believe getting an 86/87 Spree (non-Iowa :) ) is close. Oddly SB50 has a different p/n than the Spree. Folks have no issue with the bolt up though, so go ahead.

Edit: Add -- forgot to say 84/85 muff should fit too. Some say the 86/87 might be a tad better.

The sb50 (elite es) is the pipe you want. Might as well get the entire engine. It has better porting and higher compression. The intake system is different too. IIRC, the emulsion tube and main jet size are the primary differences.

The spree pipes would be a downgrade.

Maybe it is just another Iowa restriction then. Mine have all had a 65 main.

yea hahha this one has the 68 but there has to be some difference in the carbs cause the model numbers are different the sb50 ends in B and the sb50p ends in C
