Um... more scooter than sense. (86 spree 88 elite)
I followed wheelmans carb cleaning photos/guidelines.
But hit a snag (ouch).
In the side/bottom of the elite carb bowl, (3rd to the last photo on the carb cleaning bible)
there is a brass port/jet. After soaking and poking this "jet" to no avail, I am wondering if there is really
a hole all the way thru. Sure as heck seems like it should... the brass jetlooks like it goes thru the bowl casting
to the other side where one of the brass tubes comes down from the carb top half.
Surely gas is meant to come thru the bowl/jet then up the tube.
Unless Hondasan did this just to frustrate the * out of me.
Wanted to ask before I reassmebled. Thank ya'll. Barca

the last photo hase 3 bras screws
top is for the idle
middle is the air screw set by the book then ajust as needed
bottom is to drain the carb

Thanks. But the deal that has me wondering (not the air,idle or drain) is in the 3rd photo from the last.
The one that shows the bottom of the float bowl.
There is the tiny brass "hole" that lets fuel thru the main bowl into a seperate area of the bowl.
There is another brass tube that comes down from the top half of the carb, not the idle circuit pickup tube.... just to the side of it.

The orifice is a metering jet for the bystarter circuit. Bystarter circuit is cold start and warm-up aid. There is more info and pics in the topic below:

The answer to your question barca_texas is this:
The brass insert in the carb bowl does have a hole through it to allow fuel to pass into the separate reservoir.
I have cleaned them with jet files that are sold for carburetor work.

Alternates items that will suffice in some cases are
A. guitar strings
B. single strand copper wire taken from braided cable etc.
C. NOT a sewing needle =TOO BRITTLE = break in hole + bad news
D. a bristle from a wire brush, brass preferred,
Don't reassemble unless this opening is clear.
Cold start will be affected.

Just a comment. If you think you have it clear, before re-assembling you can test to make sure it is clear by drying out the bowl and filling the bystarter chamber with carb cleaner - it should trickle thru into the bowl.

And on one other note... that particular hole is probably less sensitive in terms of its size vs the main and idle jets. So poking a guitar string through is totally appropriate (I don't like having to do this with "real" jets).

Sometimes you will be there a while cleaning out that little hole. On my express carb I sat there for 2 hours once poking and prodding and spraying with carb cleaner. I would spray a bit and let it soak and pick some and spray and poke. That carb was nasty. Can't wait for my ultrasonic cleaner to arrive, to help with that kind of thing. Also if you want jet files, your local hardware or auto supply welding supply should have them known as welding tip cleaning tool. I think they are cheaper for the tip cleaner set they are the same, I've seen tip cleaners sold on eBay for 25$ that all they were was a welding tip cleaner set that was $5 at the local store. My set was $4.95 at the local general store where I was living for a while.

I recently cleaned out that clogged jet in the float bowl, and that alone fixed my cold stalling/hesitation issue on my second Spree. I used a 0.013" drill , does anyone know the correct size of that orifice ?
