elite 80 problems.

Post by DeathByFox »

So my elite 80 broke the muffler off of the exhaust pipe. Would I be able to ride like that or could I cause damage to the engine?

Is that a 2stoke motor? Either way open pipe is a bad plan.

That good sir is a 4-stroke motor. I rode it around a few blocks earlier....it was hilarious sounding.....but it ran well....kinda slugish but i had such a hard time hearing anything over that exhaust :bowrofl: ...im having a local guy weld up a custom involving another elite exhaust i have and a brigs and straton muffler.

Most motors are sluggish with no pipe, the motor needs a certain amount of back pressure to work properly. That's why the Honda civics with fart can 3" exhausts on them with no other mods can't get out of their own way. ;-) the Briggs muffler will be better than nothing for sure, especially if its a small one, remember a 5hp Briggs is almost 200cc displacement.

If you run it hard for an extended period of time I'm sure it could cause some damage. Possibly to the exhaust valve. Also it will cause a performance loss so you should plan to have it fixed sooner rather than later. A b&s muffler might work, but if you can just re-weld the stock muffler back on.

Best advice is to repair the origonal. Without an exhaust system you would have to rejet and change the engine timing. You can't change the timing so repair the exhaust.
