NQ50 eating belts...

Post by 87spree70superbee »

Hi guys,
So when I first bought my Spree the guy I bought it from had the belt replaced, and about 6 months later I put in an AX24 belt because it stretched and was slipping. Not even 50 miles later, my Spree starts knocking again. (Same symptom I had previously with the old bad belt, when I replaced it it went away.) I pulled off the belt cover and... Stretched and worn, big surprise. Belt dust everywhere, and the belt isn't as thick as it's supposed to be. What the ?!?! This thing has eaten two belts in a year. It's all lined up, I wire-wheeled all the rust off the pulleys when I replaced the belt the first time, and I shaved off a little of the spacer on the front pulley to try for a little more speed. (Shaved less than 1/8 off) Anybody have any ideas why my scooter hates me? I'm serious, all it's given me are problems.

Thanks.
Nick

I'm wondering if the the driven pulley halves aren't sliding apart properly. Almost like they are sliding * or something

Thanks for the suggestions, I figured it out. The front pulley was the issue. The aluminum half, more specifically. The washer somehow heat-seized itself to the crankshaft and started shaving aluminum everywhere from the outside of the pulley. It wasn't visible before because it was all covered in belt dust. I'm just going to upgrade to the 86-87 front pulley and a kick start cover.
