Honing Cylinder on '97 Elite SA50 --> What Size?

Post by WhiteWalker »

Like the title says, I'm looking to hone the cylinder on my '97 Elite SA50. I'd like to use a flex hone and I'm wondering what size I need.

Greetings:

Stock bore is 39mm. Divide by 25.4 (MM per Inch) = 1.534". Inch and a half should work. For Big-bore kits, divide by the same factor. 2" for a 50mm.

Most of my money is spent on scooterparts. The rest is just wasted.

I have honed several small cylinders and I use the next size larger than the size of bore.
You could purchase one here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002XUL0I6/ref=biss_dp_t_asn
I have great success with the medium grit (180) Also you could use a 240 grit. Follow instructions on package. I always hone scooter cylinders upside-down, and from the bottom of the bore.

Honing with the jug upsidedown is an awesome tip, I'mgoing to try that next time :-)

I used to hone my own cylinders, until I found a local motorcycle shop that does them professionally with a honing machine, they charge five bucks.
I cannot buy a hone and get professional results for $5.00 I suggest to contact your local motorcycle shops for an estimate.
