Hi Guys- I am new( well new here, I am 54 tho)
I have a 1984 Honda Aero 125 (Lead in UK) Runs ok but rings stuck last year and shut me down. I pulled apart and was able to remove rings ,clean up and get running again with same rings. I am thinking about pulling apart, honing cylinder and installing new rings as piston looks ok. Pistons are hard to find for this scoot. Can I hone and install .25 oversize rings on standard piston? Or will new rings work if lightly honed? Not looking for blazing speed, more reliablility minded.
Thanks
Mike

Re: Honda Aero 125
If it ran alright with the old rings, I wouldn't over bore the cylinder if it is in good shape. Just get a brake cylinder hone and clean up the bore and run it with new rings and original piston. Easy peasy clean the ring grooves really well and cross hatch the piston the same pattern as the bore lightly with 220 grit wet dry sandpaper and oil. As long as everything is not all scored up real bad it will work and you should have decent compression

That's what I was thinking-thanks.
Next problem, Where can I get a set of rings for this beast? I found a head gasket on e-bay, rings are a little tougher. Will CR 125 Honda rings work? If so what year?
Thanks again.
Mike

Re: Honda Aero 125
That's a good question, I would go on a site like cheapcycleparts.com and look up the part numbers for the cr 125 and the aero 125 rings won't take long that will tell you pretty quick.Mike317 wrote:That's what I was thinking-thanks.

The CR125 rings I bought would not fit my Aero 125 piston.

Re: Honda Aero 125
Do they fit the gloves of the piston? Ive made 0.050 over size rings fit on a 0.025 over size piston before. It was on my express. I just pit the rings in n the bore an got the end gap figured out I had to grind a bunch off of each end of both rings. Then I ground each end of each ring with the proper shape to match the old rings so they cleared the locator pins on the piston properly. This may or may not work in your case but of yo can't return the rings it might be something to try.I'd lay the new rings on top of the old and see how they match up maybe a little dremel work will make them work.

Re: Honda Aero 125
Good news !! Somebody must be producing pistons/rings again, since Ebay right now has plenty of pistons for sale. Last year it was close to impossible to locate pistons or rings. Last year I bought one new piston just to get the rings, now it seems there are several to choose from.
