Clutch spring Issue ? '87 Aero 50

Post by motormike »

Without any warning, suddenly, take-off with a very light throttle application produces
some harsh and hammer-like j/e/r/k-ing in the driveline.
When applying full throttle, it goes steady as long as it it climbing, but the j/e/r/k-ing starts coming back as
pull on the engine decreases.
Is this a spring issue inside the clutch ?...
Thanks in advance... :urban:

Greetings:

Failed springs in the clutch would prevent the clutch from releasing, but I can't see how they'd affect the gripping part. Have you pulled stuff off to check? I'd bet on a belt issue. Hopefully not stripped gear teeth or splines somewhere.

Right, will pull cover for inspection.
Expecting replacement pipe from graphite9 soon.
This scoot gets lovin' then... :urban:
You have mentioned two things that could have easily gotten overlooked Wheeldude...thanks..
I my mind's eye, I see something amiss in the variator/ramp/weight/area.
The violent nature of the malady is unsettling...

Greetings:

If it's sharp, hammer-like hits, park until out-sorted. Tac-tac-tac can wreck other good stuff. Even a crankshaft.

My buddy had a ramp guide snap and in turn rollers were sneaking out from behind the ramp. Made quite a racket for sure. Finally pulled the cover and 3 of 6 rollers were loose and destroyed and the plastic putter shells and some of the metal insides were Jammed in to the clutch took forever to clean up. I definitely wouldn't continue to ride until you pull the cover.

May not be the same... but thats exactly how my jog (1990) behaved when the rear sheaves started to seize.
