2000 elite 50 ignition switch wiring help needed

Post by Big Steve »

First time scooter owner . Purchased this tired 2000 elite 50 from the police auction this week . There is no ignition switch ,and there is no pushbutton for the starter. the kickstart seems to be functional and I have a charged battery with 12 V .but when I kick it over I can't get it to start I have found the wiring for where the key switch should be but I don't know what I need to jump to make this thing run . I'm not worried about putting a replacement key switch in as it will stay inside the garage or locked up .I am trying to wire a toggle switch or two and possibly a pushbutton for the starter.

Welcome to the scooter world big steve! Congratulations on the new ride. I guess you just need an ignition lock and seat lock and keys and thats all.

Link to wire diagram, click it, go to chapter 18 page 1. http://www.motorscooterguide.net/Manual ... Manual.pdf
Without the diagram, you could only guess, with it you can know what each wire does and where it goes.

I don't care about keying the locks . It's just point a to b when I don't want to pull out the tow truck or Cadillac . Really just want to do toggle switches all around . I tore into the dash and found the kill switch is clipped too . Judging by what I found in the helmet box under the seat , an addict owned it . No telling what all has been cut .....

Using the diagrams you provided (THANKS!!) I got it wired up and running . It seems to be starving for fuel . I haven't located a filter between the tank and carb , is there a regulator or something I should look for ?

Click on that link again, go to the chapter for the fuel system, the fuel filter is a screen that is on top of the petcock, it is inside the tank.
It can be removed , cleaned and reused.
