I recently was given an old 1990 Honda CH 80. There were a couple things wrong with it and a couple of things I still got to get. I need a belt and clutch side cover and an exhaust but more importantly I need an electric starter.
Looking online they have starters for the 1993-2007 all over the place and for cheap but I have had no luck trying to find a 1990 electric starter does anyone know if this is the same part or do they know where I can get a starter for this Honda. I would love to be able to drive her. Thanks in advance!

There's always Ebay. And you can look at the parts diagrams that you can find lots of places. I use www.servicehonda.com and look at the drawing of the starter motor and compare it to a later one.

I've checked eBay and Amazon and they only have the starter for 1993 and newer... How are you able to compare it that well? I am trying to figure out if the new one is the same or not...

The left side crankcase has the same replacement number from 87-92 and 93-2007, the pinion shaft on the starter is the same number too.

Can use state what you just shared in your post? I'm slightly confused. Is this the earlier starter? Thanks so much!

He said the left side case ( where the starter mounts to the engine) has the same part number throughout all of the production years of the ch80. The sub harness, pinion, and holder stayed the same as well. To me it looks like honda replaced the older style starter with an updated sealed unit.
It's pretty safe to say the newer starter will bolt right on. Just look for a good working used unit to try first so you don't buy a $111 starter for nothing.
