portable impact gun
Wanna have one in my bike to change belt, pulley, etc. What's the minimum torque it must have? Thx
Re: portable impact gun
I'm not sure.. technically we aren't supposed to use an impact wrench for putting the transmission parts back on ... but we all do it anyway.
i suspect any decent electrical impact gun will do the trick though

Re: portable impact gun
Be careful...quick taps on the trigger only. Impacts have alot of torque, and can eat aluminum threads very easy. I would suggest a small tool kit instead, you really only need about 4 or 5 tools to work on these things. Honda-san (-an seems more appropriate, san meens son or younger brother,-an means older brother or role model) to prefer 8mm,10mm,12mm,14mm,and 17mm in my opinion, I see alot of those in the bikes and cars.

Re: portable impact gun
An impact in your tool kit might be a little heavy. I agree with Benji stock up on the hand tools. A better plan may be to invent or buy a slick holder tool for the variator and clutch bell. That being said my small dewalt 12 volt lithium impact can remove and install my variator and clutch bell. It only has max torque of 80-90 foot pounds. So as long as you thread the nuts on first and then crank them down carefully you should be good. The problem with the small impact is if you get it just that hair tighter than the impact can overcome and you aren't getting nuts off with out manual tool or largr er impact.

Yes I agree. The lithium batteries on my little dewalts stay charged for months with no loss but if you use them and forget to charge them and they are near dead you wont know until the thing drops dead without doing the first screw lithium batteries hold voltage constant till the bitter end and die without warningmotormike wrote:and then there's that "keeping the battery charged" thing...

Re: portable impact gun
We use impacts on every single engine we touch at the shop. Fwiw your crank is hardened steel not aluminum.

I use this http://www.toolbarn.com/milwaukee-2462- ... 4712193894 for general impact duties and the 18v version for drive face and clutch...
84 Honda Spree... The plastic at least.
