Spree carb is junk?

Post by Volvo850R »

Hey guys. I’m working on third Spree right nowNo matter what I do I cannot get this carburetor to function correctly.Everything is clean and gaskets replaced .tried every needle setting.hard to start idle races then dies . Bogs with no power. Has good fuel flow. Good filters . No vacuum leak. Compression . Good spark..air screw and throttle screw will not dial in like the rest of my sprees. the carb just will
Not work correctly.

I’ve soaked it and used air as well as a small piece of wire. I have never seen daylight through a spree slowjet before. Diameter is so tiny. Even under 3/4 to full throttle not much power.. would this mean that slow jet is the culprit.?

Greetings:

Consider: Swap out the muffler with one of the good-running Sprees. Just a hunch.

I suspect that carb has some clog somewhere that is hidden.

It’s gotta be the carb. I’m not new to carbs especially spree carbs so that makes me more frustrated.the air screw didn’t have a spring so I found one that fits. Other than that everything has Ben cleaned just like my other sprees. Any ideas on what I should check.?

Greetings:

Another hunch, but this one requires an intake manifold gasket: Check the reeds??

Another thing I always thought was unrelated. The tail light will fade out once in a while. And for some reason it will only kickstart with a full battery. .. any ideas.. thanks man

Swap the carb with a good working one if you have it, should take maybe 20 minutes or less. Sounds like a clogged jets, especially the 3/4 to full throttle bog.

Yeah I’m gonna swap it up with a different one tonight. I’m confused as to what could go wrong with the current one. Main jet is clean. Emulsion tube clear. Idle circuit is clean . All passages clean… primer circuit clean

'Full' battery voltage should have no impact on the spark, as the CDI has no battery connection.

That said, some members Spree ignitions have shown erratic behavior when there is a bad ground - either at the engine (Green wire on starter bolt) as well as the frame ground to battery connection.

With luck perhaps your taillight issue is related. But old as our scooters are, from lamp socket to +12v and gnd, the issue can be one or more places.
