piston fitment

Post by windycity85 »

got some new rings for the stock engine on my spree because the old ones broke taking it apart. Well new ones are on and we cant get the piston into the cylinder at all. the top ring will barely go in, and yes we are compressing them as much as we can with our hands and whatnot.

It doesnt seem like they should go in so hard, how is the piston going to move freely up and down the cylinder if we have to jam it in?

i have no clue.

there is a place on the piston within the slot where the ring sits that does not have a void. That is where the ends of the rings should end and not over it.

On my NH80, I noticed a third ring that sits below the bottom ring in the same slot. What the heck is that for?

correct me if I wrong guys but i believe that is a compression ring. it just pushes the ring out further to maintain compression. We have it on the spree pistons too.

Make sure the grooves are clean.
Line up the ring gaps with the pin at the rear of piston.
Whola, slips right in.
Let me know how this works.
