I have a 1984 Spree. Had it worked on last summer -- worked great. I made a huge mistake and did not drain the gas over the summer.
New filter, new petcock valve, cleaned carb.
I did get it running for a few minutes -- and then bogged out -- couldn't get it started.
I cleaned the carb. I can get it started for one second only by putting some starting fluid into the air chamber -- and will not hold the start.
I drained all of the gas and put fresh gas in.
gas is running through the carb.
is it possible the engine has too much gas in it? If so, how to drain that?
Thanks to my fellow members!
After the winter, spree does not start

won't start after winter
I just add stabel to the gas before i put it away for the winter and i have not had problems starting it. That old gas if left untreated can really gum up your carb.
It sounds to me like your jets are clogged. Clean the carb again and do a thorough job on the jets. Check to make sure your float is operating smoothly.
