Trying to paint the "plastic" on my 1986 Spree
Hello.
I'm new to the "scooter" family.
I just was given a 1986 Spree and I'm trying to restore it.
I'm having a problem finding what paint/primer to use on the
"plastic" components.
Can anyone help.
Thanks.
Moman

In the process of painting. Just preped the pastic per the can of Krylon Plastic Paint. Painted 2 coats, and finished with 3 coats of automotive clear coat. Sanded, buffed, and now can shave in its reflection.
You might also be able to use a regular paint and prep the plastic with an adhesion promoter (Duplicolor has a whole line of this stuff for plastic.) Then have a automotive paint guy mix up a custom color or honda spec color and put it in an aresol can for you to use at home.
The original plastic is not painted that is the finish from the plastic. My Krylon just said to wipe with paint thinner to remove the glossy (what was left) of the plastic to allow the paint to stick.
I will post pics soon. BTW I used the "Red Pepper" red which looks very good. Kinda of a very llight/dusty red.

Gentlemen,
Thanks for the info. I already purchased a spraygun to paint my other bike and wonder if I could purchase pre-mix paint for plastic to paint the Spree. Spray cans are good but they might not have a good finish. I might be wrong...
I would really like to see the finish of Jemery's Spree. The Red Pepper colour looks interesting.

Finish has nothing to do with the gun, although a good gun will help to not cause defects in the application of the paint (blotching, dripping...etc), and reduce sanding/polishing time. But an aresol can with sanding can produce the same finish. Not arguing which is better, I would take a gun on that, but the same finish can be achieved. Just a matter of how much time you put into getting the paint smooth.
Jeremy.
I will post a pic or two tonight, to get a taste of the color and the reflection.
BTW 2 cans of Krylon Fusion Red Pepper $9 and two cans of automotive clear coat $9 = $18 plus 1500 grit sand paper $1.40 and $9 for the rubbing compound and $8 for Meguiar's Mirror Glaze $9. Total cost of paint job $36.40

Promised Pics - The paint looks redder then in person, it is a darker red (like it has a hint of light brown added to the red - just like the color name Red Pepper)

These paints elicit a low gutteral moan from the artistic side of my brain (disclaimer: I forget which one that is). If for no other reason than to stand out. Just think if anyone ever steals the little sucker, it sure would be easy to spot. Check out their crystal fx paints too... I am not sure if it is in my budget right now, but D*$@ thats hot.
