Tried EVERYTHING!!!!! A spree not meant to live....

Post by natedawg »

I have an 1985 spree that, up until a couple of months ago, had been sitting for 10 years. I have cleaned the carb VERY thoroughly twice, got a new gas tank, cleaned out the exhaust, messed with the jetting a thousand times, cleaned the valve below the gas tank, cleaned all fuel lines, cleaned the air filter, and put in a new spark plug.
It starts up and idles well, but above about 1/4 throttle, it bogs down and dies. The one thing that helps is i can jump up and down on the scooter while it is moving, then it will go top speed. This only works until it is fully warmed up, then it wont even idle any more, it just dies and wont start up until it is cold again. This is driving me nuts! Any suggestions?
thanks

Honestly this sounds like a clogged carb, were you using spray can cleaner or dip?

And did you check with a flashlight in a dark room to make sure that the passages were clear?

I know you said you cleaned it thoroughly and I believe you, but sometimes even multiple thorough cleanings wont do the trick. Then you just have to let it soak in dip for a few days and try again.

Is this Spree modified? Just wondering why you have been changing the jets.

I think he means messing with the carb screws ( throttle, and air mixture)

that too, the needle might be stuck too. but i'd check everything one more time, and then if not, get a new carb, or a rebuild kit

Sounds like the float is no good or your needle is sticking, try a new flaot and needle, these have no needle seats, just put some polishing compound on a q tip and run it in there to clean the seat up.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.
