Elite E long term maintenance?

Post by eliteguy50 »

I have a 1989 Elite E aka sb50p. It runs but I have a few long term maintenance questions:
About how many miles should I expect from a set of piston rings?
How many miles on a set of tires? and front vrs. rear?
How often should the drive belt be replaced?
Should a spark plug be changed out after so many miles or just once a year with unlimited miles?
After how many miles should I decarb my exhuast pipe(stock)?
Are there any other parts that I should be replacing after so many miles or in certain temp. ranges (I ride anywhere from 105F to 15F).

oh ya, I only run full synthetic oil (amsoil pro) and BP gasoline (89 octane).
Thanks

Rings: 3000 miles or at drop of compression. Test annually or at power drop / hard to start.
Tires: Inspect for wear and checking
Drive belt: 3000 miles, inspect for wear with scale or micrometer per spec.
Spark plug: Annually or on hard to start.
Exhaust: 1500 - 3000 miles or on inspection / power loss. Same with decarbonizing head and exhaust port.

Synthetic will help prevent carbon buildup.

Honda GN2 for oil, cheapest gas you can get your hands on will be fine. keep an eye on your air filter, check yearly for rot.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

hmm, i run 91, just because its still less than 2$ to fill it up! other than that, elite e maintenance is as follows-plenty of WOT all day long, GN2 oil every so often, plug every so often. what fun, the lightswitch scooter, WOT or nothin at all!
