i HAD a can of air filter oil, lord only knows where it has wandered off to (d*** shop gnomes)
is there any reason i have to use that oil?? upon investigating my slow drop in top speed, i realized i hadn't pulled out my air filter in a VERY long time. due to my love of off-roading, there was a scary, unhealthy looking layer of goop on my filter.
i'm going to buy a new one, but for now i just cleaned it and began searching for the elusive filter oil. i wanna go ride my hog, and i have a million OTHER kinds of oil. i was thinking about dousing it with TCW-III, but want to find out if there is some major drawback to that before i do it. look before you leap kinda thing. with a resource like this at my fingertips, it never hurts to ask.

Re: air filter oil question
I generally use 30 weight motor oil on foam filters, have used 2 smoke just because it was close by.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.
Re: air filter oil question
I know of no reason to not use the TCW-III. I too prefer the filter oil, but have used 30 weight, both dino and synthetic plus TCW oil in addition to air cooled injection oil.

Re: air filter oil question
I believe the airbox cover recommends 80-90 gear lube, but I cant stand the smell of that stuff, and its impossible to get off.
