NEED HELP GETTING SPREE TO RUN WITHOUT STOCK AIR BOX

Post by jamadi112233 »

so i recently bought an 87 spree that is missing the stock air box. i cannot get it to run rich enough with a cone filter. my question is does anyone have a jet/filter set up that works? i need to know what size jet and what filter combo works best. my local dealer doesnt have jets in stock so it takes a week to get them in.

Your best best is to buy a stock air box and snorkle. But some have used aftermarket pod air filters but had to tape off the majority of it to get it to run.

i tried going stock as i heard that it was best. however, honda no longer makes the air box or air box cover any longer. so, i need to use some sort of an aftermarket setup.

your options: post up in wanted/for sale, or restrict some other filter down to match your jetting. or upjet the carb.

Greetings:

Why won't it run with a 72-75? Pilot too small?

I agree with the stock airbox recommendations, but if you are stuck:

noiseguy had a number for the jet '85' in this post for a Spree

Also, Videonut has got a Spree going with a Craftsman filter, couple of his postings are below:
Note that Videonut used the intake tube from the Spree airbox.

Stock airboxes pop up on Ebay all the time! They usually go for around $30 shipped.

JUST FOUND A LOCAL PARTS BIKE SO I WAS ABLE TO PICK ONE UP. INSTALLED THE AIR BOX AND THEN FOUND THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE CARB. SWITCHED IN THE ONE FROM THE PARTS BIKE AND IT RUNS GREAT!!! WENT 50 MILES YESTERDAY NO PROBLEMS!!

So where was the leak?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, 90% of scooter problems are usually found in the carburetor! Did I originate that? Or did somebody else say it before me! :? LOL

the leak was around the float bowl. the seal is dried and cracked. the carb that i have on there now is off an 84 spree but its in better condition all around.
