I took apart the carburetor for cleaning and soaking. Looks clean. Emulsion tube came out fine. I took of the gasket BEFORE soaking and im noticing goop/slime on the main gasket. Where should i seek for a new gasket??It does not leak. Its not dry rotted but just a little sticky goop/slime. Can i soak my airfilter in mineral spirits to clean that too? Thanks a bunch!! And if my gas cap has cracks in the seal would i be smelling gas sometimes?

Also my lights are a little dim at idle. But when accelerating they are super bright again. Could this be the rectifier ? or maybe the magneto generator?

Neither one, likely. The headlamp runs right off the alternator, so at idle it always looks a little dimmer/yellow. The Spree manual outlines the filter cleaning method, but if yours is more than a couple of years old, hit up our Fearless Leader Noiseguy for a replacement and peace of mind. Clean the gasket with spirits as well. A cracked gas cap seal will let a little fuel fragrance emanate.

I am not there to watch you, so i don't know what is a "thin grey of rubber string"
I'm guessing some RTV silicone residue left by a previous operation.
Details...since nobody has any idea what you are seeing, we need details, and/or PIX.
Another gasket ?...besides what gasket are you referring ? float bowl gasket ?
How would I know what someone before you did to it ?
The only way to get reliable feed back is to offer reliable and concise information.
Please try again... :urban:

For your dim headlight you should clean the mounting point where the regulator attaches to the frame under the seat. Clean the regulator surface and frame where they touch with sandpaper. If the light is still dim you may need to pull the hi lo switch on the handlebar and clean the contacts in there. Some pics of your carb and the rubber string you found whle cleaning the carb would be cool. I'm curious to see what it is. ;-)

Ok here is the picture. I also disconnected the oil strainer for cleaning. Drained the black oil in oil container. I put the strainer in with the oil line and re filled it. now... Do i need to bleen the oil line? Nothing drained out of the line and i dont see air in the inline line on from the pump. Another thing is when i took off one of the fuel lines the entire brass fitting came off. So i went ahead and placed it back in and lightly tapped it back in . Is this ok as well? I dont see any leaks. Its the brass fitting located on the other side of the carb when installed. Thanks

Do I need to bleed the oil lines after i took out the oil strainer and cleaned it? I didnt let any oil come out of the line when i took out and cleaned the strainer. I only disconected from the oil strainer. Not the line at the carb.
