Cycling of Idle speed

Post by kwosha »

Any ideas what would cause idle speed to cycle up and down? It will consistenty go from a very low, "near-stalling" idle speed to racing idle speed. The bystarter is brand new and the Carb is immaculate, air element/box are brand new, gas new and clean. It starts and runs fine, just that the idle speed cycles high to low..very weird but happens a lot now.

Sounds like you may have mixed up the airscrew with the idle speed screw. Look in the service manual to make sure your adjusting the proper screw to the proper specs. It may sound a little confusing, the first number is just a starting point...

'84-'85 1 7/8th turns out
'86 1 1/2 turns out
'87 1 3/8ths turns out

...after your reset your idle you have to screw the air screw again to find the highest idle then back off the idle screw.

Good luck!
