85 Spree questions

Post by Justinsane »

Hey everyone, well im in the club now. I came across a 1985 honda spree that is in 100% excellent cosmetic condition, but i dont have a key for it. i got the scooter for free and dont know if it runs or not... (electric start only)

since i dont have the key, a couple of questions come to mind... can i just take the seat lock and give it to a locksmith and have him make me a key? also, when the axle is pointing forward, it can only turn left, but when i turn it right, it wont budge and it feels locked up, does that have to do with the Lock option on the ignition? or do i have a problem with the axle?

heres a question about the battery. i did a check, and it came out to 4.70V. is that sufficient or do i need a new battery?

thats about it for now, hopefully i dont run into any more problems
thanks!

You should be able to take the ignition module off and take it to a locksmith. I doubt the seat lock has all the tumblers.

There is a fork lock in the ignition key switch. It's probably activated.

Your battery is dead. Should be over 13V.

If I were you, I'd drain the tank and oil and purge the lines, jumper a car battery to it, and see if you can get it running b/f you buy a battery and ignition key... first things first. Go through the wiring diagram to see how to hotwire these, and read up on priming the oil pump in the service manual.

Post back with questions.

Depends where you look. Auto parts stores should be able to order them, I've been able to find them in stock at cycle/scooter shops.

If you have to order, get a few. You'll foul at least one getting the engine going.
