hi-pitched NOISE?

My 1986 NQ50 Scooter ... runs pretty well. But over this past
year it has developed a "hi pitched almost metalic chirping NOISE"
in the exhaust .... after it warms up. It runs pretty good, won't
go much over 30mph. Gas mileage is UGH. But this metallic
noise .... almost sounds like it coming from the muffler. I
don't think its the engine.

Top speed is about right, MPG is too low. Probably an upsized main jet. When's the last time you checked your exhaust port for carbon?
