Oil pump/reservoir/mix ratio confusion

Oil pump/reservoir/mix ratio confusion
So I just bought an '86 spree and I am confused as to whether I use a gas oil mix/straight gas and whether there is somewhere to put oil. I have looked at the manual for it and it mentions an oil pump which suggests I an oil reserve somewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated (telling me to use the search function does not count).

Re: Really Confused '86 Spree
Under the seat right by the gas tank, there is an oil res.
Re: Really Confused '86 Spree
And now that you know where the oil reservoir is , the next question is what kind of oil are you going to put in there? ![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

Oh no I know better than to get the oil war started. But since there is an oil reservoir, do I still need to mix oil into my gas?

Spree Confusion
Greetings:
Honda knew in 1980 that scooters wouldn't sell if buyers thought they'd have to fuss with pre-mix, hence the "automatic" oiling system. If you remain stock, there's no need to add oil to the fuel at all. Hot-Rodders with big-bore screamers don't trust the system to supply enough oil as delivered, but your Spree will be fine as long as there's oil in the oil tank.

Re: Really Confused '86 Spree
Ok so maybe I am blind, but I am looking under the seat and I can not find an oil reservoir anywhere. All I can see is the cap for the fuel tank, and directly behind it what I believe is the fuel pump and gauge because wires are coming out of it. Do I only have to life the seat to see it or do I need to take the body off to look into the engine area?
*Edit*
By looking at the service manual and my spree I have realized that I have no oil pump or reservoir. It runs, and when I bought it I was told to use a gas oil mix. So my new question is, is this going to be detrimental to the engine? Also if it isn't is this when I would use what seems to be the standard mix of 32:1 for gas and oil?

No fuel pump, these are gravity fed. That black cap is the cap on the oil tank.GoodDerf wrote:Ok so maybe I am blind, but I am looking under the seat and I can not find an oil reservoir anywhere. There is no black cap, there is no oil reservoir, there is no oil pump. What I was referring to apparently is the fuel gauge sensor. My new question is not having a separate oil reservoir and pump going to be detrimental to the engine? Also if it isn't is this when I would use what seems to be the standard mix of 32:1 for gas and oil?

Re: Really Confused '86 Spree
if you dont have an oil pump, you should try to figure out how big of a new carb jet you need to run so you dont run lean
unless the PO already did that work...then you should talk to that person about what fuel/oil ratio to run

Re: Really Confused '86 Spree
The Spree has an oil tank between the rear of the fuel tank and the battery. If you must run premix 50 to 1 is more than adequate.

Open the first link and scroll down to page 13 thru 15. There are pictures and labels to show you the gas tank (made of metal) with fuel gauge sender right behind the gas cap the the oil tank (made of plastic) with it's cap and low oil sender next to it in the semi-clear plastic tank.

Seriously there is no reservoir on mine nor is there a pump for the non existent reservoir.Bear45-70 wrote:The Spree has an oil tank between the rear of the fuel tank and the battery. If you must run premix 50 to 1 is more than adequate.

Re: Really Confused '86 Spree
Man, if I was you I'd call the cops, some scumball stole your oil tank.
Run 50 to 1 in your tank. Check to make sure the oil pump is not still rotating. Without fresh oil it will lock up on you, doing bad things in you motor. Oh and the pump is mounted on the engine.

Re: Really Confused '86 Spree
Its more likely that a previous owner removed it because...
A) He/She didn't trust the injection system and wanted to premix
or
B) the pump had some problems and was removed in lieu of being repaired
For premix 32:1 seems like the most common choice (any second kenny will come along and say 20:1 though

Re: Really Confused '86 Spree
Seeing as how I am going to get a bunch of different answers as to the proper mix ratio, are there any signs that I can look for if I am putting too much/little oil in with my gas?
