Noise from my buddies scoot.

Post by JONESER »

Hey guys... I talked my buddy into buying an Elite. ('05 Ruckus for sale BTW)
He picked up a nice '93 SR the otherday. The thing is making a whinning noise while on the throttle. Sounds like when you put a manuel car in reverse and back up with a little speed.

We changed the oil in the rear case and it still makes the noise. Any of you have that noise?

THANKS!

well it sounds like a belt issue. but i may be wrong.... but i $10 belt is easy to replace. Clean it up too.

not sure exactly what your hearing on the scoot but i just redid the gears in the final drive of my 87 elite cuz i finally figured out thats what was causing my racket. but mine was almost at final speed and very loud gear slap basically. i went through almost everything before finally figuring it out.

$10 belt? I am interested!

I also believe it is gear related, though I am not sure of the solution.

Can you get the same sound by spinning the rear wheel by hand? Is the sound louder than the engine running?

He's ordering some 9 1:1 gears today. After we change 'em out I'll post up to see if there's a change. He's also doing a new belt.

Wait! 9:1 gears will not fit if this really is a 1993. Those gears were intended for 94+ engines.

Yeah, he called VT Cyles to order them and he said they wouldn't work. So, where to get gears for the '93???
