It's going to be a couple of days before I get my needle set. Prior to cleaning the carb, I'd like to soak it to loosen any deposits it may have. What is the best to pre-soak it? Mineral spirits? Carb cleaner? Thanks.

Get one of those gallon-size carb dips from the auto parts store. You have to remove all the rubber parts from the carb, and wash the carb with water afterwards. Just follow the directions and you'll be fine.

I'm not familiar with that kind of product. Can it be had at Autozone, O'Reillys, etc?

Are you supposed to be able to see through the idle jet like you can see the through the main jet? All the way though?

Whenever i clean my carbs u just take carb cleaner, take the whole carb apart and spray into every hole and clean anything that just looks dirty. Works great after that.

i use the berryman's chem-dip, wahed it in soapy water after about 20 mins, sprayed it off with berryman's b12 chemtool, then gave all of the holes a go through with compressed air. wait till it dries, then reassemble!

Guys,

If you use a carb dip you have to wash the carb out with water when you're done to neutralize it. There is nothing to rust in a carb; only zinc and brass. You only have to do this for carb dips (which few here use.) It's in the instructions, right on the side. You then use compressed air to get rid of the water.
