After sitting a few days, my 1987 elite 50 cranks a very long time before starting, then seems to starve for gas. After a few seconds it runs great. If I drive it everyday it starts right up. Is this the auto bystarter? Do I need a new one or is there a way to test or clean the bystarter?

If its cold where you live use the kick starter, synthetic oil and a hotter plug, for electric start they have a high torque starter but i don't reccomend it for stock engines unless you change back to the stock one in the spring, manual choke carbs are the way to go.

mine does the same thing. i think it looses vaccume and it take awhile to get it back so the gas can flow in to the carb.

LIVING IN WIS, I DONT USE THE SCOOTER IN THE WINTER, ITS SLEEPING IN THE BASEMENT NOW. MY STATRING PROBLEM IS IN THE WARM WEATHER, I REALISE LOOSING VACUUM WILL MAKE THE FUEL VALVE SHUT. BUT I FEEL AFTER I CRANK LONG ENOUGH I DEVELOP ENOUGH VACUUM TO GET THE FUEL FLOWING AGAIN. IVE SEEN PEOPLE SAY THE BYSTARTER IS LIKE THE CHOKE. I FEEL THAT MIGHT BE MY PROBLEM. THE SERVICE MANUAL TALKS ABOUT THE BYSTARTER BUT NEVER EXPLAINS WHAT IT DOES (GREAT ENGRISH TRANSLATIONS BY THE WAY).
IF I DRIVE IT EVERYDAY, IT STARTS FINE, LET ME KNOW IF YOU GUYS HAVE ANY IDEAS.
