Wrong oil added to tank.

Post by SevenKeys »

I have an '86 Honda Spree which runs well. I added oil to the tank, but mistakenly read the manual and added sae 10-40 oil instead of the recommended 2-stroke oil. I only added 1/4 to 1/3 of a quart. Will this cause undo problems such that I should drain the oil and refill with recommended oil?

Just unplug the gas line from the carb and put a cup under it, then disconnect the vac line and suck in. Wait 1 minute until fuel stops flowing out the line, reconnect everything, refill with correct premix, and walla. Just don't suck on the fuel line. That wouldn't be good for anyone! (Well, except for us, that would just be down right funny.)

He said he added it to the oil tank so he isn't running premix.

he never SAID oil tank but most sprees r stock so very good chance he has a working oil tank but to the question at hand should be a rubber line going to oil tank if in the case you did put the oil in there just pull off line drain refill

Take the scooter to a professional mechanic and have them drain the tank and bleed to oil injection system. You risk ruining a good engine if you attempt it yourself without knowing exactly what you're doing.

Nope he did say oil tank "I have an '86 Honda Spree which runs well. I added oil to the tank, but mistakenly read the manual and added sae 10-40 oil instead of the recommended 2-stroke oil."
Evidently you are psychic if you knew which tank he was referring to from "the tank" :jack:

I reread it after posting that and I must have misread it the first time.

I read it and assumed it meant OIL tank too.

To assume it was premix would not make much sense. sorry C3

a spree gas tank is about .7 gal and sevenkeys said
I only added 1/4 to 1/3 of a quart.
If he was talking about the GAS tank, That would be way too much oil of any type.

Did you run it with this oil in the tank? If not just drain it and refill.

That is probably not necessary .....It will not ruin you engine

It could foul out a spark plug or cause a little more carbon build up.

If there is an air bubble in the injection system it will very likely seize from oil starvation. To each their own.
