86 spree gas guzzler

I recently bought a 86 spree, it runs well but it seems to use more gas than needed . I haven't actually calculated my mileage but i ride to work and round trip is about 7-8 miles, that takes a little more than a quarter tank. Ive checked for leaks and cant find any, what could my problem be? I can say I love this scooter and look forward to restoring it to like new

You have to take into consideration that the tank is only .66 gallons. A quarter of that is 0.165 gallons, and if you get 7 miles on that much gas, that's just over 42 mpg (which is a bit low, but not stupendously low like there is something horribly wrong). If you get 8 miles on that, it's 48 mpg. The tank is so small, it is very hard to judge what your gas mileage actually is without going through several tanks of gas.
